Shows land subdivision, native reserves, swamps, vegetation cover and "anchorage of H.M.S.V. Acheron" (1848-1851). Relief shown by hachures and bathymetric soundings.

"Depicts the survey work carried out in the Canterbury settlement before the arrival of the Charlotte Jane. It shows 'Lyttelton' on the site of Christchurch, and 'Lyttleton' [sic.] as the port"--Maling, P.B. Historic charts & maps of New Zealand, 1642-1875. P. 240-242.
