NAFTA

Signed on 31 August 1965 and come into force on 1 January 1966. NAFTA had removed 80% of the tariffs and quantitative restrictions on trade across the Tasman Sea, although it was seen as too complex and bureaucratic. As such in March 1980, a joint Prime Ministerial communique was released that called for "closer economic relations".
