Description

All images show groups of Māori leaders, and government ministers gathered in the reception hall of the Beehive Executive Wing at Parliament in July 1981 for discussions on planning a new exhibition "Te Māori". This meeting was known as Tū Tangata Wānanga Whakatauira which was held in the Legislative Chambers, organised by Māori Affairs Department under the leadership of Kara Puketapu. National Party deputy Duncan McIntyre is seen greeting members of the Māori group (frames 3 to 5 & 9); and Māori leader Sonny Waru is seen in frames 11 & 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
