- Description
Display of contemporary Māori art held at the Pipitea Marae in 1981. Frames 1 to 5 show young Māori working on a large carving on a flat table surface, with a large carved panel on the wall behind them (frame 2 to 5). Two older men are talking, Bruce Stewart on the right and possibly Lyonel Grant on the left (frame 6); the work in the background of frame 10 is by Cliff Whiting. The work in the background of frame 7 is possibly by Sandy Adsett, and the work in the background of frame 10 is by Cliff Whiting. Ans Westra has focused on a young man wearing overalls, short dreadlocks and a beret looking (identified as Mark Kopua) at paintings on a gallery wall (frames 8 to 12). His mother Mahue Grace is seen in frame 1, and she is seen with her son in frames 8 to 12). All taken at an exhibition at the Pipitea Marae. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified.
