- Description
All frames taken at the opening of the Pipitea Marae on 31st May 1980. They show close-up views of Māori attending the opening. A group of older women are standing in the entrance porch of the wharenui (frames 2 & 3), one of whom is wearing a korowai (cloak with twisted thrums, and a tipare (woven head dress). A woman with a moko kauwae (chin tattoo) is talking to Professor James Ritchie (frames 5 & 6). Several men, wearing traditional Māori clothing including piupiu (flax skirts) and various styles of woven cloaks, including korowai (frames 8 to 12). Several of them are wearing painted facial moko. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
