Wellington Town Hall (Wellington, N.Z.)

Neo-renaissance style concert hall in Wellington City. Construction of the Victorian municipal hall began in 1901 with the Foundation Stone being laid during the visit to New Zealand of the Duke and Duchess of York and Cornwall, and the building was officially opened on 7 Dec 1904. See article in Dominion post, 4 Dec 2004, p A13 & article by Peter Kitchin in Dominion post, 14 Jun 2008, E10. Includes Concert Chamber.

"On Wednesday 7 December 1904, the Wellington Town Hall was officially opened by Mayor Aitken with the official gold and greenstone key. A four day city-wide celebration followed to celebrate the occasion. The Wellington Town Hall remains a historically significant building to the city and is a fine example of its type." Internet
