Waiwhetū Marae

Situated at Riverside Drive, Waiwhetu. Whare nui called 'Arohanui ki te Tangata / Te Ra o Te Raukura'. Opened in September 1960. Located at 4 Puketapu Grove, Lower Hutt, opposite Te Whiti Park. It traces its origins to Te Atiawa, and members of that iwi who arrived in the Hutt Valley in the middle of the 19th century from Taranaki. It was opened by local MP Sir Walter Nash, who took a personal interest in it after he was approached by Ihaia Puketapu.
