Description

The first folder of two from papers originally in a file box labelled 'Rosina Buckman (3) also D'Argel'.

Includes a manilla folder labelled 'Butterfly CD notes etc', correspondence about the production of a 'Madam Butterfly' CD, drafts of liner notes for the CD, invitation lists, an invitation to the CD launch, a photograph of Melba Napier, Rosina Morrison, and Heather Krebs (relatives of Rosina Buckman) at the CD launch, photocopies of biographical information about Nellie Wallace and Tudor Davies (also performing in the Madame Butterfly recording), a copy of the November/December 1995 issue of 'Opera News' with an article about the issue of the CD, and copies of reviews of the CD.

The earliest date of the collated material is 1929.

Note that the 'Madam Butterfly' CD was one of the first CDs to be produced for the 'Treasures in Sound' programme, which was a collaboration between the National Library/Alexander Turnbull Library and various recording companies to produce CDs of vulnerable archival sound material. The original 'Madam Butterfly' recording featuring Rosina Buckman was made in 1924 and was the first opera ever recorded in English.
