Ernest Arthur Bunkall (1886-1957) served with the Auckland Mounted Rifles Brigade (1914-1916) and the Imperial Camel Corps (1916-1918) in World War One. He fought in the Gallipoli, Sinai, and Palestine campaigns, reaching the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. In 1918 he entered the Royal Flying Corps training school as a cadet.

Provenance: Diaries were purchased at auction. Two photograph albums created by Ernest Arthur Bunkall depicting military life and aircraft used during the First World War were also for sale. Albums were purchased by an unidentified private bidder.
