Images show scenes of Sir Bernard Fergusson, Governor-General of New Zealand, being welcomed onto Turangawaewae Marae, during the regatta, taken in 1963 by Ans Westra. Three people and the band have been named at a later date by an unidentified attendee at the pokai. They are: Wilson Tohi Hau and Brown [i.e. Brownie] Tahapeehi as young boys playing trumpets in the Waikato Taniwharau Brass Band, and Patrick Taipari also in the band. Unless otherwise stated all persons are unidentified.
Images consist of:
- Sir Bernard Fergusson giving a speech on the veranda of Te Mahinarangi meeting house.
- Waiata a ringa (action songs) being performed.
- A brass band, which includes children, playing.
