Esme Baxter was born in Wellington in 1920. Compares the Upper Hutt church with a country church she attended as a child and talks of other churches. Mentions her husband's involvement with the Food Bank and Family Care Centre and her own membership of Women's Fellowship. Talks of her relationship with God. Explains what it is like having secretarial skills in today's work scene. Describes her leisure activities, Burnham Camp canteen work in wartime, being a Girl Guide which led to Tramping Club membership and describes the trips when she met her husband. Recalls various modes of transport used before they had a car, and describes taking a pushchair on buses and trains. Talks of changing attitudes to Sunday activities, formality at services. Recalls attitudes to Diphtheria, TB which her husband had, and compares it with AIDS. Talks of her widowed mother, life on a farm and partnership in marriage. Mentions her own and her husband's work, choices of work in the Depression. Recalls Ministers in Parliament and air travel on overseas work trips. Mentions the church's role in the community.
