Taini Maremare Jamison born Rotorua. Outlines family background - father worked for Maori Land Court and was away a lot surveying. Mentions father's involvement in World War I and with 28th Maori Battalion, B-Company during World War II. Recalls childhood: living in Grey Street and walking to Waka school; chores; move to Ruatoki near Taneatua; Maori language; childhood games and involvement with sport. Mentions headmaster, Mr McCoughan. Describes impact of World War II and recalls headmaster reading list of ex pupils who were killed. Recalls joining Ngati Poneke Club and visit of Gracie Fields and husband. Describes time at Wellington Teachers Training College, involvement in Opera with Maori club and Philip Smithell Dance group. Mentions 1947 Polio scare. Explains organisation of club level netball in Rotorua and formation of Rotorua Basketball Association in 1930s. Explains difference between indoor and outdoor basketball, changes in international rules and benefits of rule changes for games between Australia and New Zealand. Also mentions international uniform changes. Explains travel arrangements for national tours, funded mostly by players and fund raising. Explains introduction of Equalisation Fund. Discusses coaching responsibilities and details selection criteria for representative teams. Explains decision to stop playing in 1959, teaching at Malfroy Primary School until retirement.
