Ivor Powell born Wales and came to New Zealand at the age of six years. - Recalls childhood in Wales - father a miner, father also worked in foundry in Dunedin. Mentions being apprenticed in the clothing industry.
Recalls signing up in the New Zealand Army, joining Coastal Batteries at Lyttelton with reference to the old disappearing gun at Taiaroa Heads. Recalls his experiences in Egypt and Cassino where he served in Artillery on 25 pounders. Remembers getting a job as driver to General Freyberg. Mentions General Mark Clark of United States of America. Talks about his involvement in New Zealand Labour Party and being on the NZLP ticket for Borough Council Elections. Mentions Freddie Jones, a cabinet minister in the first Labour Government. Speaks of involvement in trade union activities - Clothing Workers Union. Mentions Claude MacDonnell of Clerical Workers Union and taking over as Secretary of that union in Dunedin.
