Mary Varnham lived at Paekakariki until she was eight years, when her family moved to Wellington. Recalls attending Hataitai school and Wellington East Girls' College before going to Woodford House School in 5th form. Explains how she was one of the first students at Woodford to sit university Scholarship in Physics and Chemistry - Woodford had to import a chemistry and physics teacher from Hastings Boys' High to give her lessons at night. Gives her impressions of life at Woodford. Describes Rev Williams who taught Latin and Mrs Frykberg (English teacher).
