- Description
The Minister of Labour, Simon Bridges, announces 'My Department will not prosecute anyone over the deaths of 29 men at Pike River - a decision firmly based on legal principles'. Behind him, the prime minister, John Key, adds 'The firmest principle being "No trial, no flak for the government in election year"'.
Commentary from the artist reads "Despite dropping the Pike River prosecution, and the intensely packaged spin surrounding the announcement, this tragedy is not going to disappear."
On 12 December 2013 the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment announced yesterday that it was not proceeding with charges of breaching health and safety rules, as it was unlikely to obtain a conviction.
