Hawkey, Allan Charles, 1941- :"I need confirmation that the toothpaste is made in New Zealand..." 5 June 2013
- Waikato times (Newspaper)
- Under the news heading 'Ethical choice making ground with shoppers' a woman tells the checkout operator "I need confirmation that the toothpaste is made in New Zealand, doesn't contain greenhouse gases or bits of shark fin, is free range, eco friendly, organic, ticks all the green boxes, contains an element of cultural sensitivity...". Refers to a Sustainable Business Council and Fairfax poll conducted by Horizon research that reveals that shoppers are increasingly motivated by ethical factors as well as price alone. Wider context may also refer to a recent vote by the Hamilton City Council against flouridation of the city's water, making it the second largest unflouridated city in the country, sparking concern from health professionals.
