Description

Collection relating to the Hitchcock family. Comprises papers and photographs about family history, and both the professional and family lives of several different family members. Includes shipboard diary of Henry Hitchcock describing the voyage to New Zealand on the clipper Calypso in 1874. Letters written in the 1860s from mother of Maria Hitchcock (née Thompson, 1855-1944) to family in Ireland from Kangaroo Flats goldfields in Victoria Australia. Accounts, letters, estate papers, and photographs of Edward Hitchcock. Postcard and photograph albums of his wife Elizabeth (Bessie) Hitchcock (née Hayes, 1880-1955), and letters of condolence on her death. Diaries, photographs and 1919 autograph book of Edward's twin sister Sister Margaret Hitchcock (1883-1967) during nursing service in World War 1. Diaries, letters, house plans and photographs of Henry Coleridge Hitchcock, including accounts of his young children. Also postcards and maps, World War 1 and World War 2 magazines, and family photographs taken by various photographers circa 1860s to 1990s.

Copies of these are held at Library reference number MS-Papers-11195-35.
