Shows two Maori men greeting each other with a hongi, each clasping the other's hand. The clothing, head-dress and weapons worn by the two men are more inclined to look African than Maori, particularly the style of their garments, and the shield worn on one man's back.
Possibly from a later edition of Precis de la geographie universelle, ou, Description de toutes les parties du monde, by Conrad Malte-Brun (1755-1826) or a related publication of about 1860
