`The life of John Plimmer... ' was published for private circulation in 1901 and comprises reminiscences, letters to the press and verses by John Plimmer with explanatory matter by John Young. This volume, an association copy relating to Johannes Andersen and Dr G C Petersen, includes manuscript notes from Plimmer concerning the Wellington City Corporation, newspaper clippings and J C Andersen's manuscript notes on Noah's Ark.
Plimmer, born at Upton-under-Amon, Shropshire, worked as a forester in the Forest of Dean prior to coming to New Zealand by the `Gertrude' in 1841. He was occupied in the Wellington trade in Wellington before establishing a wharf and warehouse popularly known as Noah's Ark. He represented Wellington on the Wellington Provincial Council, 1856-1857, and later as a member of the Wellington Town Board, as well as being involved in the establishment of a number of public companies, notably the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company
