Description

Scene in the interior of a fenced pa, with storehouses, dwellings and a wharenui. Two men are crouched beside an iron cooking pot in the right, there are people visible in doorways and a woman with a child on her back is walking across the compound. A pig (or possibly a dog) is on the left. The style is naive.

Formerly attributed to J. A. Gilfillan, but the style is too naive. More like the work of James Coutts Crawford. By the same artist, and with the same provenance as A-093-002. 'Tombs of a chief and his children, Manawatu'
