- Description
A rough diary and notebook recording his travels north. After mention of dealings at Waiheke and Coromandel McLean describes his visit to the Bay of Islands and Hokianga. After several days at the Bay he travelled with Waka Nene to Hokianga. Throughout he describes the people met including Frederick Maning, John Webster, James Clendon and Maori leaders like Arama Karaka, Wharepapa and Nene. He records some details of the Maori history of the area, including the campaigns of Hongi Hika and Hone Heke.
