W L Williams - "He Korero mo Te Rauparaha", by Atanatiu Te Kairangi
- Te Kairangi, Atanatiu, active 1870-1913
A comprehensive narrative by Atanatiu Te Kairangi about the migration of Ngati Toa to Kapiti and their subsequent raids into the South Island during the late 1820s and 1830s. Although unsigned this account later appears in the Maori newspaper Te Pipiwharauroa, No. 176, 1913, verbatim. Williams was the Editor for the newspaper at the time.
Also includes a second, different, account of the story given in the first person; probably also by Atanatiu.
The account contains two paragraphs about Te Rauparaha fighting with the original iwi of the northern South Island around 1830
