Residence of the New Zealand administrator of Samoa, Robert Ward Tate, at Vailima, photographed by Alfred James Tattersall circa 1919-1923.

This dwelling was formerly known as 'Vailima', and was the home of Robert Louis Stevenson.

Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - bottom centre - Governor's Residence Vailima Samoa A T Photo Apia 8; Verso - This is where Colonel Tate, the Administrator lives. It is about three miles out of Apia.
