The letters were written by Leopold du Chateau (Father), May du Chateau (mother), Len du Chateau (brother), Olga du Chateau (sister), Peter du Chateau (nephew) and Scott Colville, a family friend from Auckland. The du Chateau family was based in Wellington and the letters deal with a variety of topics including domestic family matters, friends, politicians, the state of the war, American soldiers in Wellington, Rugby football, brewing beer, rationing, Shakespeare and other writers, newspapers, radio, business affairs, etc
