Description

Shows Francis Jollie's house, Thackwood, where nowadays Rutherford St is, to the north-east of the Cathedral. Harvesters and stooks of wheat in foreground.

Previously believed to show Stoke, Nelson, it has been discovered by staff of Nelson Museum to be similar to extreme left-hand portion of Saxton's painting, The town and part of the harbour of Nelson in 1842, published in Wakefield, E J. Illustrations to Adventure in New Zealand. London, 1845, Plate 7. The buildings are at a later stage of development, however.
