- Description
A circular painting showing the mill at the left, with its water wheel at the far left. The Ngaio Gorge Road is at the right and there is a wooden bridge in the right foreground, over a foreground stream. A horse and cart are stopped beside the mill building. The hillside has been cut to make the road which winds away upwards amongst bush vegetation.
The mill building appears smaller, probably an earlier stage than that shown in other depictions by William Holmes (B-009-004 and B-009-005) and Charles Emilius Gold (A-288-028). The painting may therefore date from the late 1840s, according to information in Ward's "Early Wellington" (1928), page 237, suggesting the mill was first built around 1845.
