Albion flatbed style press of the mid-19th century
1830s date of manufacture is the suggestion of printer Alan Loney; Sydney Shep thinks it is later, probably 1840s to 1860s. (pers. comm. 14 June 2000).
Also known as the Elibank Press (the name of Alexander Turnbull's home in Wellington, corner Bowen Street and The Terrace).

Provenance: Housed in the the Alexander Turnbull Library for some years, then moved to Reuben Avenue, Brooklyn, early 1980s, in the care of Rachel Salmond and Ross Harvey; taken over by Alan Loney, Brooklyn, late 1980s; shifted to Silent Isle Press (Dr Sydney Shep, Wellington) 1994, then to Waiteata Press at Victoria University of Wellington, its current location.
