Description

Comprises original and two typescript copies of a letter from David Lewis of Wellington to John Knowles re current state of both Wellington and New Zealand, political matters, military concerns and activities and events. Lewis describes members of the defence units, the wreck of the `Tyne' off Cape Terawhiti, the affairs of the NZ Company, various settlers including Tiffen, Allom and Jollie, the libel cases of Cridland v Holroyd and v Smith, and other people and concerns (not all people entered). Includes sketch map of part of Wellington showing embankments and positions of some buildings
