Lewis describes members of the defence units, the wreck of the `Tyne' off Cape Terawhiti, the affairs of the NZ Company, various settlers including Tiffen, Allom and Jollie, the libel cases of Cridland v Holroyd and v Smith, and other people and concerns (not all people entered). Includes sketch map of part of Wellington showing embankments and positions of some buildings
