- Shows a fantail as a green-backed bird, with orange-red chest and black band at its throat, perched on a branch. Accompanied by pages 109-112 of "The natural history of birds" vol.2, concerning various types of flycatchers. Appears to be a copy from John Latham's General synopsis of birds, published 1781-7, including a print of a fantail in exactly the same stance as this one. Latham's engravings were based on bird skins brought back to England by Captain Cook. The copperplate engraving may also have been published separately in 1787, as inscribed.
