Description

View of the Wellington Town Hall taken from the corner of Mercer and Cuba Streets in Wellington, with cars parked outside. Shows the tramlines above the street. A sign leaning against the building advertises an upcoming event: `Help the Orphans / Town Hall / Tues Dec 11 at 8 pm / to aid of / St Joseph's Orphanage / Jubilee Choir / [illegible] / Mrs Wilfred Andrews / Mr Roy Trewern /' etc. Photograph taken in the 1930s (after 1934), by Sydney Charles Smith.

In 1934, the clock and its tower were removed from the Wellington Town Hall as a precaution after the 1931 Hawkes Bay earthquake.
