Farming notes contain hand-written pieces and newspaper clippings on a variety of farming topics, as well as six plant cuttings, pressed into the volume. The remainder of the volume consists of newspaper clippings, largely about local affairs, although not exclusively so - there are also poems and pieces on overseas stories.
