Description
Model T Ford car on a King Country road outside the Rangitaiki Hotel. Photograph taken in 1912 by Ernest Gilling during the first motor trip from Wellington to Auckland, through the central North Island. Note on back of file print reads "Rough dirt road through the King Country 1912. Taken on the first motor trip from Wngt - Auck. via Taihape, Taumarunui, [Ohira?] and Te Kuiti" The leader of the journey was Wellington journalist Arthur Chorlton, whose book 'Motoring Pioneers through the King Country' described the expedition. The driver was Harold Richards. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
