A Maori family in the foreground, with the buildings of Simmonds and Hoggard's Windmill behind them (now the site of the Embassy Theatre at the foot of Mount Victoria). Part way up the hill to the left is 'Victoria Cottage' (the top of Marjoribanks Street). This was William Fitzherbert's farm cottage. The windmill was built in 1843.
