Heretaunga carved house at Taradale, Napier, photographed ca 1889 by William Williams.

"Te Maori: Maori art from New Zealand collections" edited by S M Mead (Auckland, Heinemann, 1984) identifies a poutokomanawa figure photographed in front of this house (in a negative held by the Library at 1/1-025857-G) as being held at the Heretaunga house at Taradale.

"Carved Maori houses of the Eastern districts" by W J Phillipps (Records of the Dominion Museum, vol 1, no 2, October 1944) identifies this image as "Heretaunga, at Pakowhai, near Napier" and attributes it to Augustus Hamilton.
