Briggs, Henry Perronet, 1792-1844 :[The 1st Marquis of Normanby] Lord Mulgrave. Engraved by Charles Turner; painted by H. P. Briggs, Esqr, R. A. London, published 2 Jan. 1836 by Colnaghi & Company..
Three-quarter length frontal portrait of Lord Mulgrave, standing in an interior. He is wearing a velvet-collared coat and is looking to his left. His right arm is resting on the pedestal of a pillar.
Likely to show the first Lord Mulgrave, not the second. The painting on which this mezzotint was based was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1832 under the title The Earl of Mulgrave (item 138). At that date, the second Lord Mulgrave would have been only 13, and the subject of this portrait is an adult with a light beard. Also the second Earl of Mulgrave would not have been so titled during the lifetime of his father.
