F class steam locomotive `Rob Roy', and driver, circa 1880. Photographer and location unknown.

Date taken from the class of Dubs built locomotive featured. It first entered service in 1880. This F class locomotive has a short smokebox, no cow catcher, no NZR number plates, the original stove pipe funnel, and uses a fictional name ('Rob Roy' is the title of a Sir Walter Scott novel), a practice which was discontinued in the 1880s.
