Bennett, Agnes Elizabeth Lloyd, 1872-1960 : Photographs
Photographs consist of:-
Family photographs taken in Australia and New Zealand. These include images of the construction of "Honda", the name Agnes Bennett gave to the house she built at Lowry Bay, Lower Hutt City.
Photographs relating to Agnes Bennett's career before and after the first World War. These include staff at the Larbert Asylum near Edinburgh, Scotland, where she spent a year working in 1900, and photographs relating to her time as medical superintendant at St Helen's Hospital, Wellington, from 1908 to 1936.
Most of the photographs relate to Agnes Bennett's activities during the first world war. Some are of Egypt where she worked in a military hospital in Cairo in 1915/1916. The largest group of images come from the time she spent commanding No 7 Unit (the American Unit) of the Scottish Women's Hospitals for Foreign Service, attached to the Serbian Army in 1916/1917. There are also photographs taken in 1918 when she worked at the British military hospital, Netley, Southampton, and when she was Medical Officer on the troop ships "Wiltshire" and "Pararoa", and the cargo ship "Essex".
Other photographs include overseas trips, one to Britain and Sumatra in 1925, and others to Java, Russia, Polland, and Scandinavia in the 1930s. One small album contains six photographs taken when she worked for the flying doctor service in Queensland in 1939.
