Robley, Horatio Gordon, 1840-1930

At the top, a plan view of two lots of trenches at Gate Pa with water shown at 150 yards distance on both sides. The rear of the pa and a breach are both marked. In the centre, an elevation of the palisade in front of the pa, with the flag flying above the palisade to the left. Below, a cross-section showing several Maori men sheltered inside dug-outs, with a palisade beyond; a detail of the palisades, bottom centre; a detail of the Ngai Te Rangi 'fighting flag' bottom right. The flag shows a red ground with white cross, crescent and star. There are also some dimensions given below and a key to the covered passages shown on the plan view.
