Turnbull (MS Papers 57/64, 10 Nov. 1911: "I hereby certify that this oil painting of the late Sir Harry Atkinson was painted by my late wife, E. K. Mair, nee Sperrey..." Quantity: 1 oil(s). Physical Description: Oil on canvas 765 x 610 mm Provenance: Acquired by Alexander Horsburgh Turnbull in 1911 from Gilbert Mair, and in the collection of the Alexander Turnbull Library until 1936. Lent to the National Art Gallery (Te Papa) for its opening exhibition, 1936, and listed in their catalogue of this exhibition as 'Lent by the Turnbull Library'. Retained by the National Art Gallery and returned to the Library in 1978, when it was deposited 'on permanent loan' by the National Art Gallery in the mistaken belief that it was part of the National Art Gallery's collection.
