A woman reads a newspaper report about a dangerous palm kernel cargo protest by Greenpeace that endangers lives. A television programme delights at the arrival of the godwits in the South Island that herald the advent of spring and a man passing by comments to himself 'so do the dimwits'. Refers to the arrival of the godwits that fly from their breeding grounds in Alaska and arrive in New Zealand in late September, during the spring, to fatten up over the southern hemisphere summer. The reference to the protest is about Greenpeace protesting against Fonterra's importation of palm kernels for use as stock feed because of its role in the destruction of rainforests, predominantly in Malaysia and Indonesia. Up to 14 Greenpeace protesters boarded the Hong Kong-registered freighter East Ambition, lashing themselves to cranes and the anchor, preventing the ship from docking.
