Depicts Brees in front of his panorama, pointing to the end of a long painting showing a group of Maori performing a haka.
The only known portrait of Brees. (see S C Brees, artist and surveyor, in Turnbull Library Record v. (n.s.) no 4 1968 pp 42-3. Accompanied by an advertising broadsheet 'Brees's Colonial Panorama of New Zealand (B-031-034-1).
Brees showed his panorama of New Zealand (actually of Wellington, Hutt Valley and South Wairarapa and not of Maori performing a haka) at the Leicester Square, London, Panorama Theatre, 1849-1850, to promote emigration to New Zealand.
