Illustrated New Zealand herald :The wreck of the steamship Tararua on the Waipapapa reef, Foveaux Straits. 1881
The Tararua broken in two, in heavy seas, with people clinging to parts of the wreckage
Reproduced in Making New Zealand, published 1940. According to the caption from Making New Zealand, the illustration comes from the New Zealand herald of 1881. However the illustration is not located with other views of the wreck in the New Zealand herald of 1881, and the information in Making New Zealand appears to be incorrect. The image has the appearance of a wood engraving from an illustrated paper of the period, however.
