Description

The interior of a large mausoleum for a Roman emperor with arches containing many burial niches, funeral urns, a pyramid and a monumental grave to the right for the emperor and his wife. On the floor, small roof-like objects cover skulls.

Extended Title - From: La prima parte di architteture e prospettive, 1743. Vedonsi in questa le nicchie e vasi, ne'quali collo canvasi le ceneri de' servi, de liberti, e di qualunque altro della famiglia. Vedesi ben conservato il sepolchro, in sui stanno reposte le ceneri dell' imperatore e imperatrice di lui moglie. In qualche lontananza comparisce ancora una piramide, la quale pote forse servire di sepolcro a qualche altro ragguardevo le personnagio della casa imper.te. Il ponte poi e le sale che, osservansi dai gran finestroni, davano l'ingresso ad ogni angolo della camera suddetta, e per le stesse discendevasi al piu basso piano, ove i tavoloni di cotto coprivano le ossa della piu bassa familglia
