The cartoon shows Prime Minister John Key being welcomed into the jaws of a huge crocodile by the new Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. The crocodile represents 'Asylum seeker politics'. Refers to Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard's proposal for a regional centre for asylum seekers. Julia Gillard has asked New Zealand to support a centre in East Timor. The steady stream of asylum seekers landing on Australian shores would be sent there for processing, and New Zealand would take some of those deemed to be genuine. Critics say that this is a cynical ploy to neutralise a hugely contentious internal political issue and New Zealand should not be involved.
