Standing frontal portrait of a Maori chief, wearing a kiwi feather cloak, a skirt with a patu through the belt, a large tiki and three feathers in his hair. In his right hand he holds a taiaha. The roofs of dwellings can be seen behind him
Loosely based on Sydney Parkinson's engraving from his visit with James Cook in 1769 'A New Zealand warrior in his proper dress'.
