Allan Hawkey was born 1941 in Invercargill, and raised in Timaru. From 1982-1990, he published cartoons in the Timaru Herald with the signature, 'Hawkeye'. In 1990, he left the Timaru Herald and took up a banking appointment in Fiji. Upon returning to New Zealand, he settled in Hamilton, and his cartoons have been published in the Waikato Times since 1998, and on a daily basis since January 2001.
