Photographs of people and places, made for publication in the New Zealand Free Lance, circa 1900 to 1952 (the majority being 1949). Includes photographs of European immigrants, politicians, royalty and notable people, including Sir Alfred Zimmern, Count Ciano, Frau Goering, Captain Shout (recipient of V C), F J Montague, the Maharajah of Jodphur and his wife Alexandra MacBryde, Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, Jan Kiepura, Goering, Lord and Lady Boyce, the Duke of York (1927), A J Stallworthy, King Michael of Romania and the Crown Prince of Serbia. Also includes the gutted interior of St Mark's Church in Opawa, Christchurch after a fire in December 1949; the Expert's Trial conducted by the Victorian Light Car Club; the newly completed Mountain View Lodge (made of glass bottles) in Queenstown; a search and rescue mission at Bannister Hut Base; scenic views of Takaka; an invention by A W Taff of Napier to assist a man without arms and a coach outside Bendigo Hotel, Alexandra (ca 1900).
