- Robley, Horatio Gordon, 1840-1930
- Shows a Maori child feeding a tohunga with food on the end of a stick, in front of a whare. A steaming bowl of potatoes in a kete is beside the child and a gourd is behind him or her. The whare's ridge pole has a carving of a face, thatched walls and roof and a palisade to the left This drawing bears a strong resemblance to Gottfried Lindauer's large oil 'Tohunga under tapu' (in the Auckland City Art Gallery). It is possible either that Lindauer copied a drawing by Robley, or that Robley, in England, in the 1910s or 1920s saw a copy of the Lindauer and copied it. All of the elements are there in both pictures - the kneeling tohunga, his hands behind his back, the crouching child to the left feeding him a potato on a stick, the bowl of potatoes in the foreground, a gourd behind the child and the design of the whare and its central carving, with a palisade to the left.
