Lodge, Nevile Sidney, 1918-1989 :If queues are anything to go by, our national sport could have a serious rival, but at least, with rugby, there may be only about 45,000 disappointed patrons at most; with the mammoth Golden Kiwi, there are 247,114 for certain. 1961.
Cartoon shows four vignettes: spectators line up for rugby test match tickets, while hopeful gamblers line up for the 60,000 pound mammoth Golden kiwi tickets, with 2886 prizes. After the All Blacks lose, a group of spectators walks dejectedly from the grounds, and when the Golden Kiwi results come out, another group stands dejectedly comparing their ticket numbers to those published in the newspaper prize list.
