Waimate Pa was near the mouth of the Patea River, Taranaki. See also Heaphy's 'View on the Patea River, Cooks Straits, 1839' (A-146-004). Heaphy visited Waimate Pa in September 1840 in the company of Robert Park and Robert Stokes.
